As the old saying goes, “Nobody went to Yankee Stadium to see Babe Ruth bunt.” Fans wanted to see him swinging for the fences to watch a towering homerun that would win the ball game. They wanted to witness greatness. However, during his career, fans would have been much more likely to see him strike out than to make contact – 1,330 times to be exact.
We all want to see an event that creates records and changes things forever. Unfortunately, those are only the rare events that create legends, they are not the things that win consistently. As technology is continuously introduced into the casino industry, many of the companies behind it adopt a “swinging for the fences” mentality. It is my contention that we need to pump the brakes, think things through and take a “Moneyball” approach.
