How do I fix IT? This is perhaps the most common question a third-party consultant hears when engaged to assess the current IT team and operations. This question has long been a common concern and challenge for any organization’s nontechnical senior leadership. Although the word “fix” immediately infers that it is the IT or technology team that is broken. In reality, the results of an IT assessment will more often than not uncover that both the IT team and non-IT leadership team share a good bit of “broken” in their approach to technology. In my article today, I am going to take a slightly different approach and focus on the role of non-IT executives in improving technology operations. Sometimes, looking in the mirror and seeing your own reflection, along with some self-awareness, is the best way to tackle a challenge like “how do I fix it?”
