I go through my morning routine at work, get my coffee, check my email, peruse my calendar, look at the Tribal-ISAC dispatch for any new threats, go through my list of things I need to accomplish, stare at my wall of sticky notes, and breathe out.
It’s a typical morning by any standard. Nothing seems out of the ordinary, but everything is just a bit out of balance. The weird thing is, that it has been for quite some time.
I didn’t notice at first, but G2E really pushed it out there for me. I felt the excitement that I always feel when I go to the show. Sure there’s the possibility of new technology, seeing old friends, great dining, but it’s mostly some pleasant surprises that I don’t expect.
I use TribalNet, the G&L Roundtable, and G2E to build strategy, look for trends, and see where the gaming world is going. I have other things I look at, but these conferences are the “in your face” gaming shows that make it impossible to miss the trends.
Last year was the first year out – lightly attended as expected. This year, it was completely full! Vendors, participants, speakers – the entire cast! It was so great to see everyone. Like the world’s largest family reunion, except filled with family members you want to see, or are easy to avoid based on the sheer volume of people.
Yet, something is missing. I feel like something is just a couple degrees left of center. Then it hits me. There are no real surprises.
