Many months have passed since our lives were taken over by COVID-19. The casino industry came to a screeching halt as did most all resort and entertainment businesses globally. The strong performance of the casino industry leading up to the sudden stop was strong.
The USA non-tribal casino industry generated over $43 billion in gaming revenue in 2019. That number will no doubt decline by 30-40% or worse year over year in 2020. Some predictions for tribal casinos, that generated over $40 billion in 2019, is that they could experience up to a 50% revenue hit in 2020.
Macau casinos generated more than $36 billion on their own in 2019. Macau experienced a decline in vicinity of 90% for April through June based on comparison to same months in prior year. Recovery for Macau will depend on the lifting of restrictions by China and the return of the VIP players.
