When I was young in the IT trade, I learned that as a creative person, as most IT people are, I have out-of-the-box ideas all the time. When they came, I would get excited about them and scream from the mountaintops my great idea, only to have it served back to me like a high-velocity volleyball being spiked into my face.
This prepared me for writing as well. Today, I received my twenty-second rejection from an agent about representing my book so I can have it published in the traditional manner. Am I disappointed? Of course I am. Am I discouraged? Not really.
Why?
Because of my IT background, I learned that you must live for the 10%. The other 90% will always get rejected. That is why we must always lean into the 10% and scrape off the 90% when we are told no.
