This is an interesting topic for me, because it is such a hard thing to put into words – let alone down on paper – but it is something that I have played with my entire life. It seems to be one of the items that clearly challenges all of us, at least emotionally. Or to put it more pop culturally, living in the gap between Captain Kirk and Commander Spock.
I have found in my own life that my emotions drive me, just like Captain James T. Kirk. Unfortunately, sometimes that is directly into a wall, but most times that drive pushes me to succeed and do well. I use my emotions or my passion to become a better person or a worse person very quickly. They will make me do well in a speech or fail in an interview. They cloud my judgement and clear my judgement, all in equal measure. I don’t think I am alone in this, because Zoloft and Prozac sales are through the roof these days! Let’s face it, every one of us have Captain Kirk mentality that we try to balance with a Commander Spock persona.
