The gaming and hospitality industry in the U.S. looks to be primed for some big changes in the next year or two.
We see sports betting continuing to expand. We have online gaming, cashless technology and “touchless everything” solutions all sitting on a platter before us and ready to move forward quickly in the wake of the 2020 pandemic aftereffects. The question is not really IF the industry will see big change, because it certainly is going to change significantly. The real question is, what is possible with these changes and how are you going to position yourself and your organization to benefit and be in a position of strength? For tribal casinos, I believe this presents a great opportunity, and it is a critical time to decide your own tribe’s path forward. Whether your tribal casino is large or small, urban or rural, the future that defines how you will be able to leverage any number of large potential industry changes is not set. So what will you choose to do? Will you put your energy into resisting the impending changes, hoping to maintain the success and status quo you have already achieved? Maybe you plan to just wait and see what occurs with changes and regulations and react accordingly once the dust has settled and the future is clearer? Or, are you going to think BIG(ger) right now and attempt to be an active part of defining the future structure of the industry and your own organization?
