Hard to believe it is that time again, but here comes the start of 2022. Pandemics, protests, and politics aside, 2022 is already shaping up to be an eventful year in the world of safety and security. Skills shortages, a move toward hybrid working, new security legislation, and the lingering possibility of further lockdowns are just some of the challenges safety and security officials face as we head into 2022. Add to that the increasingly blurred line occurring between cyber and physical security, using information technology and advancements in artificial intelligence increasing their codependance, and 2022 may prove to be both the most exciting and very complex year yet for security.
There is no doubt that information development, vetting, and sharing is one of the most important aspects of a successful safety and security program. For years leading up to 2020 and 2021, the standalone systems of cyber and physical security have become increasingly dependent on one another, as technology has spurred new and exciting ways to expand and improve security practices. The goal all along has been to close the security gaps that can exist when physical and security teams operate in silos. Technology, and its usefulness in a strong security platform has become increasingly important, and 2022 may be the year that technology and security become more closely aligned.
By working together, physical and cyber security teams can develop converged strategies and policies to keep their businesses safe through 2022. As part of the process, there are a few areas of interest being discussed by industry leaders as we roll into the new year.
