Artificial Intelligence (AI) and quantum computing technologies are poised to dominate the news headlines in 2025 which will also create unprecedented levels of stress among people, companies and even governments worried about being left in the dust of those who are better prepared to harness these new technologies before they can. The expansive expected scope of disruption from both of these fast-developing technologies is unlike any other new technology introduction in my lifetime. So, if you are finding yourself feeling a bit stressed about the continuous hype and unbelievably fast paced rate of developments from these technologies in 2025, you are not alone.
To be honest, over this past year I have found myself impressed, amazed and even feeling a bit worried when it comes to both AI and quantum computing. As I read about these technologies, listen to subject matter experts presenting at our nationwide events and talk to tribal leaders and technology leaders across the U.S. about their own concerns and plans, I have gained a healthy respect and understanding of the technology disruption these technologies will likely bring in the coming year(s). I will share some of the high-level takeaways I have learned on these two hot topics, but first I think it is important to recognize that technology change does continue to escalate at an exponential rate, and I think it is worthwhile to take a moment (or deep breath) and consider some aspects of “why” we are at this point.
