During the third quarter of 2023, global gaming activity expanded, particularly as the postpandemic recovery in Macau accelerated. Meanwhile, domestic gaming operations demonstrated strength with 2023 expected to be another banner year overall.
Commercial gaming revenue in the United States, comprised of traditional casino games, sports betting and iGaming, totaled $16.2 billion in the third quarter of 2023 according to the American Gaming Association. The latest period marked the third consecutive quarter of revenues eclipsing $16.0 billion as well as a 6.6 percent increase from the third quarter of 2022. Each gaming segment posted gains from the prior year. The largest revenue source, slot machines, reached nearly $9.0 billion, up 1.6 percent on the year, while table game revenue reached $2.6 billion (+3.5 percent). Additionally, sports betting reached $2.2 billion (+28.0 percent) and iGaming (online betting) grew to $1.5 billion (+25.6 percent).
