The importance of an effective privacy and security culture—along with training and awareness of employees—are often the last and most important lines of defense in cybersecurity. Yet, the “human element” of cybersecurity is often treated like perfunctory annual compliance exercises, providing a simple annual training class to employees. Even if employees pay attention to the training, there is risk that they revert to lax behaviors quickly.
Let’s be clear: Employees can be either the greatest security asset or the most expensive liability. Effective privacy and security culture, training and awareness can significantly enhance overall security posture, amplifying the return on investment in security technology and processes.
