In the physical world we use centralized, trusted parties that help us identify, validate, authorize, settle and record-keep any type of asset transfer or financial transaction (e.g., banks, title companies, financial institutions, marketplaces like Amazon and eBay, etc.) The main goal of these institutions is the creation of trust so unknown individuals can transfer valuable assets. But how can we accomplish the same thing in the digital world, where anonymous impersonators, dubious nation-states, hackers and cyber-criminals seem to live under every nook and cranny of this wild-west digital frontier?
