As a woman in architecture, and specifically the gaming design industry, I am well attuned to the specific trials of navigating a male-dominated arena. Still viewed as the old boy’s club, the gaming industry has come a long way, yet we still have great lengths to go toward achieving equity and inclusivity—for designers, developers, employees, and patrons. I am honored to work alongside a network of intelligent women who are striving to create a more inclusive future for gaming through mentorship programs, expanded casino offerings, and a strategic eye toward safety and comfort for all. The casino of the future is a place where people of all ages, races, and gender expressions will feel that they always have a seat at the (gaming) table.
Mentorship and Leadership: Advancement in the Profession
To continue promoting female advancement and growth in the profession, opportunities for mentorship and camaraderie are invaluable. One of the few in the industry is the Global Gaming Women organization. The group is an incredible resource that celebrates women in gaming across all different disciplines. The organization is very active at G2E, bringing together women of all age brackets and positions within the industry to take an active role in guiding and mentoring each other. I’ve found my experiences working with this organization very inspiring and comforting. It’s an acknowledgment that I am not the only one going through these experiences (both the good and bad!).
