First, how do you become a CPA?
A CPA stands for Certified Public Accountant. There is an argument as old as CPAs and lawyers themselves on which path and career is harder. Although becoming a lawyer follows a very similar process, the CPA candidate must be well versed in not only tax, regulations, auditing and attestation, which most think of when they think of a CPA, but also business law and finance. The CPA exam is a four-part exam. Candidates will practice under the supervision of a licensed CPA to garner the state requisite experience hours. Some states also require candidates to pass an ethics examination. Once candidates have completed the education, examination, and experience requirements, they can apply for CPA licensure through their state board of accountancy. After obtaining the CPA license, CPAs are required to maintain their licensure by completing continuing education courses, often referred to as CPE.
