As the role of technology in tribal organizations has continued to expand and grow, the need for an organization-wide technology steering committee has also become more critical. Technology permeates most departments as well as the operations of those departments across any organization. Although the IT team is key to delivering technology projects and initiatives, it is most often not their place to decide on their own what projects get approved, denied or how they are prioritized. As I work with tribal organizations all across the U.S., I often find that they are facing project, structure, budgeting and/or communication issues that could and should be corrected with a proper representative technology steering committee structure. It is not a new concept, but is an important organizational structure that needs to be given a greater priority.
