The original article written for this issue delved into my time working in the hospitality world. Yes, after many years of public safety work, as both a sworn law enforcement officer and a consultant to law enforcement agencies, I was attracted to and hired into a role within a casino resort in the Las Vegas area. While my insights as an outsider are unique, and the safety issues facing resorts are something I will address in future articles, I felt compelled to scrap that article and instead address an ongoing issue within our communities.
Now, understand that I am not political in my views and am not trying to persuade anyone by my viewpoint. America is ripe for dissention and in many cases, we have found ourselves devolving from civil discourse to all out havoc. Just yesterday, I read a report of a guest throwing a cup of hot coffee at a sports book employee because they (jokingly) disagreed with the best team in the NFL for the upcoming season. If that doesn’t accurately depict the current situation in the United States, I don’t know what does.
