Because commercial software solutions are not one-size-fits-all, there has always been a need for in-house software developers to customize these solutions to properly align with internal processes and business needs. More recently the need to integrate social media channels into internal and external processes, had the effect of increasing the workload of these in-house developers. This brings us to today’s topic, secure coding. Wikipedia states, “Secure coding is the practice of developing computer software in such a way that guards against the accidental introduction of security vulnerabilities. Defects, bugs and logic flaws are consistently the primary cause of commonly exploited software vulnerabilities.” The core in this definition is the goal to minimize the risk of a breach to an organization by the internally developed software or application.
Software is often developed using integrated development environments (IDE) like PyCharm, PHP Storm, NetBeans, Eclipse, Komodo IDE, Oracle JDeveloper, and Microsoft Visual Studio Code. These development environments integrate the software development processes and development tools into an easy and consistent interface. The ultimate goal of integrated development environments is to create clean and efficient code on a timely schedule by a group of developers.
