After attending the February G&L Forum AI + cybersecurity leadership congress (Did you go? If not you missed out), some of the discussions held that day cranked up the gears in my brain regarding ethics and AI usage.
I wrote a previous article about AI and while I have been loath to write another AI article, the topic is becoming ubiquitous and hard to avoid. After the G&L Forum, I had to put some thoughts and musings down regarding the topic.
As we are all aware, much of the AI advertising put forth by marketing is that “AI will change your world” or make everything easier. All well and good ideals but at no point does it appear there is thought being implemented about using AI/ML in an ethical way.
Ethics is doing what is right, whether based on social norms, or by what a business or employee’s actions may be based on as well as knowing what is right and wrong (Essig, 2014). Unfortunately, not everyone knows the difference or possibly, it is not clearly defined by one’s employer. Especially when one is talking about revenues, which is one of the primary goals of the gaming industry.
