During the latest reporting period, domestic based gaming revenues surged while foreign markets such as Macau continued to face challenges amid the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and related response within the region. Overall, the gaming industry in the United States showed signs of strength in the third quarter of 2022 as nine out of the 10 largest domestic markets pushed ahead of pre-pandemic levels.
On a national level, gaming revenue in the third quarter of 2022 totaled $15.2 billion, according to the American Gaming Association. The latest quarter marked the highest total recorded in history, and it also marked the first time revenue climbed over $15.0 billion. The latest performance marked a 2.2 percent improvement from the prior quarter and an 8.8 percent increase from one year ago. For a comparison to pre-pandemic volumes, gaming revenue was up 36.2 percent from the third quarter of 2019.
