    NATIONAL GAMING RESULTS, UPDATE

    Net gaming growth around

    the U.S. for 2014 vs. 2013

    YTD is basically flat through

    December 2014. This had

    previously been -2% or worse

    for earlier 2014.

    In recent months more

states are reporting monthly gains – a trend

    begun in April 2014.

Nevada – While tables (baccarat) declined, slot

win increased +6%. To our JSA readers, this is

precisely why we don’t calculate NV or NJ table

win into our figures due to the extreme volatility

of table games in both drop and/or win. We feel

slot win for these two markets is most accurate.

    Maryland – In a year-to-year comparison, excluding

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore which opened in

August 2014, year-to-year revenue decreased from

    December 2013 by $2.4M or -3.6%.1

New Jersey – Without adjusting for four properties

that have closed since early 2014, total gaming

win declined by -13% to $179.8M. When

comparing operators open this and last year, casino

win was $179.8M in December 2014, reflecting a

7.3% increase compared to December 2013.2

JSA 2015 national forecast for overall gaming

    growth:

2015 versus 2014 will be roughly even to

declining by -1% to -3%, which is a revision higher

from our -2% to -4% forecast in June 2014.

Note: JSA calculates monthly trends in adjusted

total win for all states. We use adjusted total win for

a variety of reasons but mostly to provide a consistent

basis. Many states report combined slot and

table revenue and our reporting reflects the same.

Some states separate slot and table win and where

this occurs we report the combined total. The exceptions

to the separate slot and table win are NJ and

NV, where table revenue is a large component of

total win and often generates very volatile results.

So, for a better picture of the overall market for NJ

and NV results, slot revenue is reported.

While growth was not generated for YTD 2014 vs.

YTD 2013, the rate of decline had been down by –

2% or worse in mid-2014. That said, the past six

months have shown many more states’ net growing,

which returned the 12-month YTD figures to a very

    slight decline of -.5%.

For this G&L report, we use the published figure

by the agency and we do not factor out new

properties opening or properties closing. For our

clients or those in need of specialty research, we

can provide “same store” breakdowns where

available. That is to say, by excluding new outlets

or outlets that have since closed, comparisons

are on equal footing making data more directly

    comparable.

We hope you find the information useful. If

you have any questions or needs in regards to this

information, do not hesitate to contact us.
